Aztec Basketball Academy - Training...the next step taken by a serious basketball player.

The Aztec Basketball Academy has been named one of the new up and coming training companies in the Central Valley. Founded in May 2010, The Aztec Basketball Academy has already earned itself quite a name.

Founder and Head Trainer Myron Epps, native of Tulare, California has the credentials and experience to help take today’s athletes to the next level. After playing 4 years at Tulare Union, Myron went on to continue his basketball career at San Diego State University.

Myron helped lead Tulare Union to the 1998 Central Section Division 2 Championship.  He is the cities all time leading scorer and was named All State and California North vs South All Star MVP.   Myron played in the Eddie Jones All Star Classic and Double Pump California All Star Game.   He was named USA Today’s All American Honorable Mention and Cal Hi Sports Top 100 nationally ranked his senior season.   He was coached by Dave Shoemaker at Tulare Union, former assistant coach at the University of Pacific.

During his time on the EBO travel ball team he played with current NBA players Matt Barnes, Carlos Boozer and Deshawn Stevenson, as well as, former NBA player Chris Jefferies.  They were coached by Darren Matsubara who now is the president of Adidas Nation, a program that takes the top 12 players from each country and runs elite skills clinics with NBA coaches and scouts.

While at San Diego State University Myron became the 18th player in school history to score 1,000 career points and 16th in Aztec history with 1,021. Myron was the first Aztec player to average double figures in three consecutive season since 1997. During his Sophomore year Myron had a career high of 32 points during the San Diego State vs Wyoming game.  He was selected by Athon Sports Magazine  as a pre season All Mountain West selection. He is also one of two past Aztecs to lead his team in field goal percentage three consecutive years, while being the ONLY Aztec to do that during the Division 1 era.

Myron continued playing basketball after graduating college. He played in the Long Beach Pro Am Summer League during 2003 and professionally in Mexico.

After 7 years with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, Myron decided to pursue his true passion: coaching and training youth athletes.  He completed his Masters in Coaching and Administration and is excited to pursue a full time career in developing the physical and mental skills of the youth athletes.

Myron is currently the Head Coach for the Mission Oak Boy’s Varsity Basketball Team as well as the overall program.  Coaching is not just a dream career for Myron, but a passion.
